My digital life

Media has always been present in my life. The first media experience I think I can recall is when my parents watched the news from TV. Ever since that I have watched the news with them, which was boring at a younger age, but the older I grew, the more interesting it became.

Nowadays I watch the news with curiosity. I love learning new things and being able to understand and explain the world around me. However, I don’t live with my parents anymore and I don’t watch TV so much, so I haven’t watched the news in a long time.

Instead, my way of keeping up with the world is through my phone and social media. I used to have apps called Yle, Ilta-Sanomat and Ilta-Lehti, but I never really used them so I deleted them. I use different kinds of social media apps, such as Instagram and Tiktok. In Tiktok there are lots of different kinds of news in my feed. Some of them might be false news but some of them might be made by Yle or Ilta-Sanomat, which are usually quite reliable. However, I am always critical with the information I get from social media.

When it comes to traditional media, such as newspapers or radio, I never use them. I never read magazines either. When in the store, I might check the headlines quickly, but usually I don’t pay attention to them. As for radio, cars or public places are the only places I might hear radio shows and news. Then there are movies and books which I both like. I have always liked reading a lot and I think that might have something to do with the fact that I like to read stuff from the internet and educate myself. Same goes for movies and documentaries for example. I also listen to music a lot, if that counts as media.

I never read blogs like these either and to be honest I think they are a bit old fashioned. Instead, I watch videos and videoblogs from apps like YouTube. Mostly I interact with other people, I don’t share content that much myself.

My experiences in the media are mostly good. I like to educate myself and learn something new everyday. I read articles about the human body and sometimes even scary stuff from history etc. So even frightening content doesn’t shake me. I do not recall my very first time in the media, probably it was the radio, TV or music videos from Youtube.

All in all, after writing this post it seems to me like I only use certain types of media, like social media and not so much the traditional media. I’m not a heavy media user but I do listen to music and watch movies a lot.
